ASK ME ANYTHING #28: “How do you teach life skills?”
My ultimate guide to life skills.
Ahh, life skills. Every parent wants their kid to have them. But how on earth do you teach them?
Most schools don't touch life skills with a ten-foot pole. And yet these are the skills that actually determine how your kid moves through the world. Can they speak up for themselves? Navigate hard conversations? Figure things out when no one is handing them the answer?
For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing everything I think and believe about life skills: why life skills are at the center of what we do in our schools, what they actually look like in practice, and the philosophy behind it all.
Today, I want to recap so you can have it all together in one place.
Whether you’re just jumping in or you’ve been following along, here’s everything we do in our schools to teach kids life skills (and some ideas for you to start at home).
The five life skills that will matter most in the age of AI, and how to start building them with your kid tonight. (Leadership + teamwork, storytelling + public speaking, entrepreneurship + financial literacy, relationship-building + socialization, grit + hard work.)
Grades are out. Real-world mastery is in. Here's how we "grade" life skills through Test2Pass: a live, high-stakes challenge where kids prove what they can actually do.
Because academics only takes two hours, our students get their time back to do amazing stuff in afternoon workshops. Here are all 18 workshops that Alpha Austin ran this past session.
These three essays are the foundation of how we think about life skills in our schools. Read them, share them with a parent who needs them, and if something sparked a question, send me a message. (That’s what AMAs are for!)
What do you want to know about life skills next?

#Ask me Anything
Hello, I have a question, wonder if this is the right place to ask.
*What and how do you teach teens about healthy and consciousness use of smartphone?
*What practices have you implemented to set boundaries successfully with them?
Thank you
I’d like to ask your social media intern team who posts these:
1) why can’t @MacKenzie Price respond to anyone here? It is very disappointing.
2) is there an official response for the allegations of abuse?

3). Since the alpha model isn’t scalable, is there a plan to ever try and impact learning for students that aren’t rich?
